Regional Manager of Volunteer Engagement

Responsibilities:

Key responsibility for providing oversight and guidance to the individual Branch coordinators within the Wilmington, New Bern, and Greenville service area. Manage staff by setting clear expectations, monitoring the performance, and conduct of employees, support employee professional development, coach employees, training, and provide feedback. Ensure cross – functional collaboration within the organization to provide volunteer support for special events / programs and other departments including Community Health and Engagement, Food Sourcing and Network, Programs, Development, and other internal departments as needed. Including providing logistical support to Sort-a-Rama, Yam Jam, Stamp Out Hunger and other events as needed. (30%)
- Participate in weekly Office of Volunteer Engagement conference calls.
- Support and work at other branches when needed.

Play a key role in and serve as a liaison between Office of Volunteer Engagement and General Operations to assure Food Safety Standard Operation Procedures and Warehouse Safety guidelines are followed and implemented within the volunteer program, at all branches, and off – site locations. Including AIB standards and SOPs. (20%)
- Coordinate all project areas and serve as a material manager for the volunteer program at the branch, which entails ensuring product is available to complete volunteer event. Coordinating with Branch Operations staff to ensure enough usable pallets and bins are available and organized; combining pallets to save space; and compliance with other warehouse protocols.
- Complete documentation related to general operations and other departments as needed.
- Attend Food and Safety Committee meetings as needed.

Serve as a program manager to assure all the stages and daily operations of the volunteer program runs efficiently by monitoring, implementing, improving, and evaluating best practices such as: logistics and operation of volunteer sessions, volunteer communication, volunteer recognition, scheduling, volunteer data tracking via CERVIS, application of SOPs, warehouse and food safety policies and procedures. (20%)
- Utilize CERVIS daily to capture hours and volunteer data in an accurate and effective way. Create volunteer schedules and communicate with volunteers.
- Train and instruct Volunteer Coordinators on how to conduct large groups of volunteers and individuals on volunteer projects. Including incorporating appropriate education to increase awareness of hunger issues.
- Ensure and/or obtain all necessary materials for daily volunteer activities, including products and supplies by working with Food Sourcing and General Operations Managers.
- Work and collaborate with Director of Volunteer Engagement to assure program development by implementing initiatives, strategic plan, event planning and other action items as needed.

Work with the Director of Volunteer Engagement to implement volunteer recruitment and retention strategies by proactively engaging with volunteers, community members, and public/ private organizations as a representative of the Volunteer Program and Food Bank. (20%)
- Formally and informally recognize volunteers and their contributions to the Food Bank. Work with the Director of Volunteer Engagement to plan and execute volunteer recognition events.
- Participate in network and community engagement opportunities to assist with volunteer recruitment efforts and to represent the Food Bank.
- Assist with the implementation of a comprehensive stewardship program that appropriately and consistently promotes the cultivation of donors at all levels. Including actively monitoring and communicating with the development team about potential volunteer – to – donor individuals and groups. (10%)

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred with 4-6 years of volunteer engagement/services experience in non-profit or related industry; or 3 -5 years supervisory or manager experience required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for these requirements.
Leadership and supervisory skills desired in the following areas: Managing people, Planning and Organization, Delegation, Initiative, Judgement and Teamwork.
- Strong attention to detail, organization and project management skills
- Forklift certification or ability to pass the organization’s certification test within 60 days.
- Excellent customer service and organizational skills
- Strong work ethic and able to be comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Possess very good written and verbal communication skills and be able to represent the Food Bank professionally.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups of people.
- Strong public speaking skills.
- Valid NC driver’s license.
- Believe in the mission of the organization.

This job has a significant physical aspect associated with the work, including frequent use of tools typically employed in the warehouse. While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, and interact without deliberate impediment (e.g. wearing or listening to headphones, etc.). The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

- The employee is often required to sit and lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The employee is occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift and/or move up to 65 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment:
- While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to work in an office and warehouse setting.
- Must be able to spend at least 65% of the day standing and walking on surfaces such as concrete and ground.
- Often the employee will be required to drive an automobile.
- The employee will be required to interact with Food Bank personnel in the warehouse(s). In doing so, the employee will occasionally be exposed to - moving mechanical parts and vehicles.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
- Warehouse can be extremely cold at times and extremely hot during the summer months.
