The Center's Pro Bono Program provides confidential consultations as often as you need it throughout the year with participating attorneys, accountants, marketing and HR experts, professional coaches, and executive transition consultants who generously volunteer their time and expertise.

About the Process
Our Pro Bono Program connects current Center members with skilled volunteer experts who can provide guidance and support on a range of topics. When a request is submitted, our team carefully reviews the inquiry and works to match it with a qualified volunteer whose expertise aligns with the member’s needs.

Because this program relies on the availability of a limited pool of volunteer professionals, the matching process can take time. While we strive to make timely connections, this service may not be the best fit for urgent matters or situations requiring immediate resolution.

We continue to streamline our matching process, enhance tracking systems, and expand our network of volunteers to strengthen the Pro Bono Program and better serve our members. If you have questions about the process or the types of inquiries best suited for pro bono support, please contact us.

Don't let numbers get you down. 

Members are eligible for up to an hour of free advice from Certified Public Accountants and other certified accounting professionals through the Accounting Assistance Program. Use this service as many times as you'd like throughout the year. 

Eligible questions might be on topics such as budgeting, cost allocation, or bookkeeping software. The one-hour arrangement is not appropriate for complicated matters like audits or financial reviews.

Members are eligible for up to five hours of coaching from a certified coach through the Pro Bono Coaching Assistance Program.  

Work one-on-one with a certified professional coach for up to five hours, with sessions ranging from 30 minutes to one hour. Assistance is available in: leadership/executive coaching; personal/career coaching; and wellness/health coaching. Coaching is available to individuals including executive directors/CEOs, second-in-charge staff, senior managers, or other staff member approved by the executive director/CEO.  

Work with a coach on becoming a more effective leader or crafting your leadership style; working together in effective teams; preventing burnout; mentoring others; taking care of your emotional and physical self; and much more.  

Each organization can receive up to three coaching referrals in one year.

Members can work one-on-one with a succession planning or executive transition consultant for up to one hour. Teams of two (e.g., CEO and board chair, two board members) are recommended during these consultations. The nonprofit completes a brief, confidential questionnaire before meeting with the consultant and receives information about practical resources to help them in this work. 

Examples of appropriate topics for the consultation include but are not limited to: 

  • key transition decisions to consider and pitfalls to avoid; 
  • the benefits of hiring an interim CEO; 
  • the advantages and disadvantages of working with a search firm; and 
  • the differences between a Transition Committee and a Search Committee. 

Stumped by employment questions or concerns? 

 Members are eligible for up to an hour of free advice from a human resources professional through the Human Resources Assistance Program. Use this service as many times as you'd like throughout the year. 

Examples of appropriate questions might be about job interviewing, salary structures, or benefits. 

Center Members are eligible to receive legal assistance. The client must be the nonprofit organization itself and not individuals whose interests might be opposed to the corporate interests of the nonprofit (e.g., an employee facing termination). 

Attorneys may be able to answer specific questions about certain forms in an hour but cannot address more complicated matters in the allotted time. Use this service as many times as you'd like throughout the year. 

Examples of appropriate questions include, but are not limited to: 

  • Charitable giving issues 
  • Tax exemption 
  • Wage and hour compliance 

Members are eligible for up to one hour of free advice from a marketing professional through the Marketing Assistance Program. Use this service as many times as you'd like throughout the year.
