Role: Digital Campaigns Organizer
Common Cause North Carolina (CCNC) is seeking a creative and passionate Digital Organizer who can help us build compelling and innovative digital campaigns to engage our audience to support our short-term voter mobilization efforts and expands our long-term movement for an inclusive, multiracial democracy.
The Digital Organizer will employ a wide variety of digital communications tools, such as social media, videos, email, texting, graphic design, and data management, and will be crucial to our efforts to drive historic voter turnout in 2024, providing voters with a seamless online path to engagement with Common Cause while creating digital and storytelling content that will give people a sense of why their vote matters. This position will report to the Campaigns Manager on the Common Cause North Carolina team, and is a located in North Carolina with a strong preference for someone in the Triangle Region (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill), with occasional travel within state. This is a temporary position, starting April 16th and running through December 31st, 2024.
Responsibilities
Organize and engage online supporters to take actions that push our campaigns forward
Work with the Campaigns Manager to design volunteer trainings and other events that integrate volunteers into our organization
Engage, expand and diversify our membership base by developing organic and promoted graphic, text, and video content for our social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, etc.), in particular to reach our state’s youngest voters
Create content to educate our members about elections, recruit them to events and motivate them to participate in voting
Set up event and advocacy alerts, surveys, and other online outreach using platforms like Mobilize and Voter Activation Network (VAN), under the direction of the Campaigns Manager
Develop scripts for text message follow-up to accompany a field program, and use provided software to contact people and follow up appropriately
Support the organizing team and volunteers with data training, regular reports and daily use of Action Network and or VAN
Collaborate with program staff, including organizers, communications, and advocacy staff, to determine the most effective methods, mediums, and targeting for achieving our outcomes for voter outreach and/or issue campaign
Build and maintain voter contact databases
Support organizing staff’s implementation of outreach tactics by providing guidance on best practices, answering questions, and providing technical help as needed
Support communication efforts to archive and tag all photo and video content across programs and campaigns
Qualifications

Ability to quickly build relationships and credibility with multiple stakeholders with diverse interests

Critical thinking skills, a resourceful approach to problem-solving, and a creative mindset to expand our team’s work in the online space, specifically in relation to social justice
Deep familiarity with office productivity tools, specifically Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Slack, Zoom; as well as design platforms (e.g. Canva) and website management tools (e.g. Wordpress)
Experience using digital tools (e.g. VAN) to engage and mobilize people; and voter contact technology (e..g predictive dialer, virtual phone banks) and a willingness and excitement to learn new tools
Outstanding written and oral communication skills
Openness to feedback and awareness of your own strengths and areas for growth
The following is required:
Experience mobilizing people to take action, preferably in a progressive or voting rights organization, or in the context of an issue-based or political campaign
Experience leading digital campaigns on social media and via email that engaged thousands of recipients
Experience recruiting, training, and managing volunteers on digital organizing tactics
Ability to travel in-state up to 30% of the time, and domestically 1-2 per year for all staff or team retreats
Ability to occasionally work evenings and weekends, often multiple times per week during
Per our non-partisan policy, Common Cause staff members may not currently be in elected office (or running for office); on the Steering Committee or Finance Committee for any political candidate; or affiliated with the leadership of a political party
We have a preference for candidates who also demonstrate:
Familiarity with get-out-the-vote tactics for election cycles and voter engagement on issue campaigns outside of elections
Knowledge about the voting and elections process, and strong understanding of democracy reform issues (e.g. money in politics reform, redistricting reform, and voting access)
CRM, CMS, and HTML coding skills
Videography, film editing, and/or graphic design skills
Bilingual in English and Spanish

This position is included in a union-represented collective bargaining unit and specific employment terms and conditions are subject to collective bargaining negotiations
