JOB PURPOSE

The Volunteer Coordinator coordinates all Food Shuttle Farm and Urban Learning Gardens volunteer needs including recruitment and scheduling of volunteers, orientation and supervision of volunteers, recruitment and management of interns, and community outreach.

Critical to this role are the abilities to build strong partnerships both internally and externally to attract, recruit, place, and retain a diverse and energized group of dedicated volunteer resources. The Volunteer Coordinator will work to expand the supply of volunteers to ensure that vital Food Shuttle Farm and Urban Learning Garden operations are appropriately staffed in order to meet the departments’ mission and goals.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Identify, develop and implement creative volunteer recruitment strategies and methods to attract and retain a sufficient pool of volunteers to maintain efficient farm and garden operations as part of a strategic plan developed in collaboration with the appropriate staff.
• Target and present to local organizations (civic, religious, corporate, and government) appropriate for engagement at the Food Shuttle Farm and at the Urban Learning Gardens.
• Manages coordination and record keeping of all agriculture volunteers.
• Collaborate with the agriculture staff to identify needs.
• Collaborate with Volunteer Services team to recognize core volunteers.
• Assist in the development of Farm Internship program, recruit and onboard interns, and supervise interns.
• Facilitate new volunteer orientation at the farm and gardens.
• Evaluate and update volunteer safety protocols on the farm and gardens.
• Database entry and reporting of volunteer hours required.
• Facilitate core volunteer quarterly meetings at the farm and gardens.
• Gather volunteer and youth testimonials for Communication Director, Development Department, and Volunteer Services to utilize.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor Degree in agricultural field, nonprofit management, or marketing preferred.
• At least 1 year of successful volunteer administration and/or relationship management.
• Strong management and supervisor skills.
• Very strong ability to multi-task and balance projects at various stages simultaneously.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Excellent communication/public-speaking skills.
• Computer literacy including Microsoft Office Suites and database management.
• Able to solve problems or overcome issues quickly and creatively.
• Passionate about eradicating hunger.
• Proven ability to work steadily and independently with minimum supervision.
• Ability to work positively with a team.
• Ability to pass a criminal background check.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work Environment: Work is value, goal and deadline oriented with extensive external contact. Region travel is required for community outreach and recruitment initiatives such as presentations at tabling events, churches, corporations, etc. Computer work is expected, with extended hours as needed. Frequent, potentially heavy physical work in the outdoors, in all weather conditions and temperatures can be anticipated. This position is operationally based in the Volunteer Hub at the Vernon Malone Center but may require frequent meetings and volunteer supervision at the Food Shuttle Farm and Urban Learning Gardens.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
       Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
