FT Volunteer Center Associate – Work that is meaningful!

MANNA’s volunteer program hosts more than 6,500 volunteers annually, with more than 300 volunteers serving weekly on an ongoing basis. MANNA places an extremely high value on maintaining a positive and engaged relationship with its volunteers, and this position plays a critical role in providing MANNA’s volunteers with the tools, resources, inspiration, and guidance that they need in order to have a rewarding and fulfilling volunteer experience.

The Volunteer Center Associate is a very hands-on, physical position working alongside our volunteers. This position requires and emphasizes communicating with volunteers on multiple levels by providing educational presentations, work project instructions, and meaningful and impactful information about that value of the work that is done in the Volunteer Center every day!

Under the supervision of the Volunteer Center Supervisor, this position leads volunteers in the work of the Volunteer Center. The Volunteer Center Associate will train and oversee individuals and groups in the inspection, sorting, repacking and boxing of products to be distributed to our partner agencies in Western North Carolina. This position is responsible for safe product movement within the warehouse and other outside special projects and events. This position is responsible for adhering to AIB (3rd party Food Safety) standards as well as standards set by Feeding America and MANNA FoodBank.

Qualifications & Requirements:
• Minimum of a High school diploma or GED
• Valid Driver’s License/ no insurance points
• Must be able to perform the physical expectations of the position including but not limited to; safely lift and transport product as necessary (frequently 40+lbs), operate appropriate load-handling equipment (forklift, reach trucks, and pallet jacks). Operate a manual pallet jack with loads in excess of 1,200lbs including pushing and pulling
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with diverse populations of volunteers, staff, donors and agency representatives in a courteous and professional manner
• Prior experience or proven ability to direct and lead others in achieving the goals of the day-to-day operations
• Experienced in public speaking with demonstrated ability to command the attention of groups, including children, in order to maintain a safe and productive work environment in the MANNA Warehouses and Volunteer Center
• Proficiency in computer operations including full Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is a must
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to accurately write routine reports and professional correspondence

• Outstanding customer service abilities and a positive attitude
• Comfortable speaking in front of large groups and enjoys working with people
• A desire to educate and inspire others in the mission of MANNA FoodBank
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills
• Knowledge of food bank operations is a plus

Work Schedule:
Tuesday 12pm-8pm, Wednesday-Saturday 8am-4pm (September-May)
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday 8am-4pm, Tuesday 12pm-8pm (June-August)
