The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing all aspects of the volunteer management program at Haven House Services including recruiting, managing, and recognizing volunteers and supporting all donor activity.

• Develop, promote, and maintain a wide range of volunteer opportunities within the organization.
o Develop and update volunteer policies and procedures and volunteer handbook
o Survey staff regularly to assess needs for volunteer assistance
o Create and maintain volunteer job descriptions for volunteer assignments and updated information about donation drive opportunities.
o Recruit volunteers and respond to all inquiries for one-day, short-term, and long-term group and individual volunteer opportunities.
o Manage individual and group in-kind donation drives to meet program needs.
o Conduct and/or arrange for volunteer orientation and training
o Assign and schedule volunteers based on program needs and volunteers’ interests and skills
o Organize and participate in volunteer recognition programs and special events
o Work with the agency’s Volunteer Committee
o Evaluate all aspects of volunteer programs to ensure effectiveness and to recommend/implement changes as appropriate
o Maintain accurate records and provide timely statistical and activity reports on volunteer participation
• Build relationships with community faith-based organizations by educating them on and connecting them to our mission and providing them with volunteer opportunities.
o Strengthen relationships with existing faith-based organizations that support Haven House Services by communicating frequently with them to ensure they are aware of current needs and volunteer opportunities
o Identify and build relationships with new faith-based organizations to educate them about Haven House Services and engage them through donation drives and/or volunteer opportunities
o Track and report all faith-based outreach efforts and results
• Engage the Community in the mission of Haven House Services
o Help in planning, publicizing, and presenting at Haven House 101 session
o Participate in public presentations, events, information fairs, and other engagement opportunities in the community
o Develop and maintain relationships with other volunteer organizations in the area
• Support Donor/Volunteer Relation Activities
o Support  donor/volunteer relation activities, including: maintaining database and development files; preparing donor research and reports; and preparing letters, mailings, and communications.
o Provide logistical support for meetings and events (e.g. preparation of meeting agendas, recording of minutes, organize mailings)
o Assist with donor and volunteer communications through creating content for and sending out updates via our e-newsletter, social media tools, and/or website
o Engage volunteers in fundraising efforts and activities, giving them opportunities to support program needs with in-kind and financial contributions.
• Completes all required trainings.
• Participates in agency outreach and fundraising events.
• Demonstrates a willingness to assist in other agency programs as needed.
• Acts as a custodian and demonstrates responsible and ethical use of agency property and facilities.
• Displays sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
• Strives to embody the agency’s Code of Ethics while working towards the agency’s Mission.
• Learns and demonstrates Agency-wide Competencies including the areas of consumer and community relationships, continuous individual and agency-wide improvement, vision and purpose, respect and teamwork and positive leadership.
• Learns, develops, and models Positive Youth Development core competencies resulting in capacity to contribute to the mission of Haven House Services and be a resource to our youth and families, other partner organizations, and our community
• Other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and 1-3 years of related experience. 
• Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to make judgments, assume responsibility, and work independently with minimal supervision.
• Effective and courteous interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; oral and written English fluency, including accuracy in spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
• Excellent computer software skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with donor database software is preferred. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite applications a plus.
• Experience working with or in a nonprofit and with managing and supporting volunteer groups
• Initiative, creativity, reliability, flexibility, sense of humor, thoroughness and accuracy.
• Integrity in relationships with donors, prospective donors, volunteers and colleagues.

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
• Occasional evening and weekend hours required
• Potential exposure to bloodborne and/or airborne pathogens

Other Requirements:
• Valid North Carolina Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record
• Acceptable background report
• Negative drug screen
• Current/valid proof of car insurance

$18/hour part-time, average 25 hours per week

How to Apply: 

This position is funded by a grant that ends June 30, 2018.  We expect to retain and grow the position beyond that, however.  It is 25 hours per week on average, but could vary up to 29 hours/week.  Flexible candidates required (able/willing to work evenings and weekends as required).
