Established in 2002 as a research and education center based at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business, the Center for the Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship (CASE) prepares leaders and organizations with the business skills needed to achieve lasting social change.

For the last 15 years, CASE has educated thousands of students and worked with thousands of organizations, funders, government agencies, and researchers to help define, connect theory and practice, and propel the idea of social entrepreneurship into the robust field it is today.

As the Center looks ahead, it remain obsessed with one question:  How do social entrepreneurs and their organizations leap the chasm from innovative idea to sustainable impact at scale?  From training the next generation of talent to creating dynamic tools and trainings, CASE is committed to doing all it can to help.

The Marketing & Communications Coordinator will help CASE build on its history and continue to serve as a global thought leader.  This role is responsible for leading the Center’s marketing and communications strategy development and execution. The Coordinator will regularly be required to think strategically and proactively about marketing and communications opportunities and challenges, develop and implement work plans related to major campaigns and manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders.  The Coordinator will work closely with all CASE personnel and will report to CASE’s Executive Director.


Implement Brand Strategy 

  • Serve as the CASE brand manager by implementing strategic communications plans that increase awareness and raise CASE’s profile as a thought leader in scaling social impact.
  • Develop strategy and serve as voice of CASE through CASE website content, social media channels, email communications, and media relations.
  • Work closely with CASE leadership to develop talking points and key messages as needed.

Oversee and Develop Digital and Written Content

  • Maintain CASE blog, including sourcing (through students, guests, CASE team, and own writing), managing the submission of, creating, editing, and updating content on a regular basis that is relevant to CASE stakeholders and other target audiences.
  • Maintain CASE social media presence include regular posting on Twitter and Facebook.
  • Manage and develop content for monthly e-newsletters, increasing subscription over time. 
  • Develop and maintain brochures, infographics, bulletins, alumni profiles, and other marketing collateral to describe and market CASE goals, programs, and events.
  • Manage editing and dissemination of CASE Chats and other video interviews/content.
  • Support CASE Executive Director in writing for CASE blog and external publications, and in speech / external event preparation.

External and Internal Relationship Management

  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders within Duke to ensure CASE messages are being shared and align with internal stakeholders’ needs.
  • Research and develop relationships with external stakeholders including media outlets, conference organizers, and partners to place CASE work.
  • Coordinate with external vendors / contractors that may assist with graphic design, copy editing, website support, multimedia content creation, and/or events management, as needed.
  • Utilize networks to promote events and disseminate CASE thought leadership.


  • Track communications channel data to ensure that we are effectively communicating with target audiences.  Suggest and make improvements as needed.
  • Regularly update CASE’s customer relationship management (CRM) database with appropriate stakeholders and new contacts received through various sources.

General Center Support

  • Supervise student aide(s) as needed.
  • Provide additional ad-hoc project management and coordination as needed.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, or related field or at least 3 years of relevant experience in communications and marketing.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Creative self-starter that takes initiative, while balancing quality standards and resources.
  • Proven ability to manage projects independently and effectively communicate about progress to senior leadership.
  • Ability to set priorities, organize and manage multiple planning tasks simultaneously, rigorous attention to detail, and consistent follow-through.
  • Utmost professionalism and ability to interact effectively with a range of constituents, including undergraduate and graduate students, government officials, executive level business leaders, nonprofit executives, donors, faculty, and staff at all levels.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours in support of events and program delivery.
  • Expertise in or willingness/capacity to learn new software applications (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, InDesign, Salesforce, project management tools such as Basecamp, website design tools such as WordPress, customer relationship management tools, graphic design tools, etc.).
  • Demonstrated interest in social entrepreneurship preferred.
