SECU Family House is a safe, nurturing, affordable home for patients and their loved ones who travel great distances to UNC Hospitals for life-saving procedures and serious illnesses. We provide guests lodging, meals, supportive programs, transportation and a caring support network.
Weekend House Managers are scheduled to work every other weekend. Schedules are prepared on a monthly basis to allow for personal planning and flexibility. Candidates are expected to fill in as needed in the event of vacations, holidays and illness of Admissions staff.
Shifts: 3pm – 9pm on Fridays
9am - 9pm on Saturdays
9am – 9pm Sundays
Some fill-in weekday, evening and weekend shifts depending on needs
Our team is looking for a Part Time Weekend House Manager who is a strong communicator who is committed to hospitality, prompt, professional, and is sensitive to patients and families dealing with medical crises.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Greet and assist guests and potential guests, provide tours of the facility
• Complete patient referral process including data entry and confirmations
• Manage room assignment process and make referrals to hotels when Family House is full
• Direct Housekeeping staff and front desk volunteers
• Manage emergency situations as they emerge such as fire alarms, storm related outages, and incidents in which guests become ill or injured
• Answer the telephone and provide information about SECU Family House and the Admissions process
• Record all donations of items received
• Check guests in and out
• Light housekeeping and repairs such as (filling/emptying dishwashers, troubleshooting cable TV issues, and cleaning an empty guest room when housekeeping staff are off duty)
• Program card keys, repair door locks if necessary
• Assist in training of volunteers
Education and Experience Required:
• High School Diploma or equivalent. BA/BS strongly preferred
• Experience in hospitality industry
• Knowledge of hospital routines and the needs of people in stressful situations
• Management and Customer Service experience required
• Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Versatility to multi-task and prioritize and fill in on weekday and evening shifts as necessary
• Proficient in Microsoft programs including Word
• Good judgement and the ability to self-direct and work independently
• Understanding of basic safety requirements and cautions
• Must be able to speak, read, write and understand English used in the workplace
• Physical demands for this position include sitting, standing, bending, walking, lifting, climbing, and/or moving up to 15 lbs.
• Fluency in Spanish is a plus
