Technology Manager

The Technology Manager reports to the Chief Finance and Operations Officer and will work closely with the Sustainability and Data Management Coordinator. This position is responsible for planning, implementing, and/or advising on technology projects; acting as the day-to-day liaison between Center staff and managed IT vendors; and collaborating with Center staff to devise long-term maintenance and optimization strategies for continually refining our current systems to be reflective of our business practices.

The scope of work for this position combines technical expertise and strategic oversight with a hands-on understanding of the Center’s business practices. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong project management and technical skills and the ability to juggle several projects at once. Because this work is heavily dependent on interdepartmental communication and coordination, strong written and verbal communication skills are necessities. The ability to collaborate with coworkers while building consensus is critical for success in this position.

Skills and qualifications

Required Skills

  • Associate degree or other certification in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; or equivalent education/experience demonstrable through recent employment
  • Proven experience managing an IT ecosystem, with extensive experience with enterprise software/application support
  • Effective planning, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, listening, and communications skills
  • Proven ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a team-oriented, collaborative workplace
  • Commitment to quickly learn Center business practices and new technology skills as needs arise
  • Ability to work interdepartmentally to document system specifications and development requirements
  • Proficiency with MS applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and Teams
  • Self-reliant, articulate, approachable, and comfortable with a rapidly changing environment

Desired Skills

  • Experience with Salesforce administration and configuration
  • Experience with Drupal 7+ administration and configuration
  • Experience with Zoom video conferencing
  • Ability to provide training to new users and increase existing Salesforce skillsets across the organization
  • Ability to design and implement new workflows and processes and facilitate user adoption of system changes
  • Nonprofit experience or understanding of the nonprofit sector and culture
  • Experience and aptitude for making strategic level recommendations that guide decision-making, which could have significant influence over fiscal/budgetary, vision, personnel, or future state ecosystems
  • Experience planning, leading, and implementing the design of a new website for a nonprofit or business

Responsibilities

Vendor Relationship Management

  • Serve as the liaison between staff and managed IT vendor (who monitors daily operations, including server hardware, software, and other operating systems)
    • Work with managed IT provider to troubleshoot hardware, software and network issues, and monitor security of all technology
    • Work with the managed IT provider to oversee the procurement, installation, and life-cycle maintenance of technology hardware and software (includes PCs, servers, networking equipment, operating systems, peripherals, and other software)
  • Provide technical support for all end-users in conjunction with managed IT provider, particularly to provide new staff with PC/account setup, network access, and training for staff on new and existing systems
  • Develop and implement technology policies and procedures, including those for architecture, security, disaster recovery, standards, purchasing, and end-users

Project Management

  • Learn and maintain a strong working understanding of the Center’s overall goals and objectives for the organization’s programs and services
  • Research and make recommendations about proposed purchase of technology solutions and current or potential support packages and services
  • Work with CFOO to discuss system requirements, outcome specifications, budget, and timelines for major projects
  • Serve as co-lead on the Center’s Technology Committee
  • Establish and maintain regular communications with the Center’s Technology Committee core members, senior staff, and end-users pertinent to IT projects and activities
  • Facilitate consensus building and decision-making around technology projects across Center departments, including prioritization of those projects.

Application Administration & Optimization

  • Function as the primary subject matter expert on the Center’s enterprise software, integrations, and third-party licenses—with core focus on Salesforce and Drupal—keeping abreast of the trends and major releases of the Center’s software
  • Manage the configuration, testing, deployment, monitoring, maintenance, upgrade, and support of IT system components
  • Conduct internal/external stakeholder interviews to elicit business requirements and understand desired donor and constituent experience across systems
  • Conduct system assessments to analyze current business practices and make recommendations for improved effectiveness and efficiency
  • Assess CRM/CMS solutions against business practice requirements and develop roadmaps and project plans recommending future state architecture
  • Conduct testing sessions with Center staff for technical solutions and business processes

User Adoption Management

  • Work with staff and organization stakeholders to understand challenges to adoption
  • Facilitate technology trainings for staff at various levels of digital literacy, based on requests and skill gaps
  • Develop and maintain staff on-boarding materials and presentations
  • Collaborate with staff and other end-users in developing a post implementation reinforcement plan to increase the level of adoption of new solutions

Other Responsibilities

  • Develop system specs and process documentation to preserve institutional memory
  • Ensure successful completion of data backups on various platforms
  • Assure all IT activities are performed within the parameters of applicable laws, statutes, and regulations
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing professional publications as appropriate
  • Identify and prepare hardware for donation/disposal when appropriate and ensure it is stripped and secured before doing so
  • Perform other related duties as required
