The Budget and Tax Center, a special project of the Justice Center, is seeking a Policy Advocate. The Policy Advocate has primary responsibility for building support for the Budget and Tax Center’s fiscal and economic policy proposals among allied organizations, the public, and the media to ensure opportunity and prosperity for all North Carolinians. This position provides strategic campaign direction for the Budget & Tax Center’s policy initiatives, including coordinating the work with partners and allies, building the base of support for fiscal and economic policies among the public and thought leaders and developing champions on fiscal and economic issues.
The Policy Advocate will report directly to the Director of the Budget and Tax Center project and will work closely with other BTC staff members.
The successful candidate will have a master’s degree in public policy or public administration or equivalent professional training; a minimum of four years of professional experience working in policy analysis and/or advocacy, particularly with a focus on issues affecting individuals with low- and moderate-incomes; familiarity with state legislative and budgeting processes; experience leading issue campaigns, including coalition-building, communications and messaging, and civic engagement; superior written, oral and presentation skills, including the ability to effectively produce, present and communicate complex policies to a wide variety of audiences; and a demonstrated commitment to improving social justice through progressive fiscal and budget policies.
