Membership Coordinator

Established in 1909, the North Carolina State Optometric Society (NCSOS) is a non-profit state affiliate of the American Optometric Association. For over a century we have been the trusted voice of optometry, doctors of optometry, and vision care in North Carolina. Today we are comprised of over 1,000 student, active, and retired doctors of optometry members.

We are seeking a flexible, highly motivated, “people person” to join an existing staff of three to focus on creating and maintaining stellar membership, recruitment and retention processes. The successful candidate must be detail and process-oriented, highly proficient in database management, organized, and most importantly, integrate well within a team environment.

Duties include:

• Maintain a comprehensive knowledge of organization’s membership benefits and services and promote benefits and services through various channels
• Manage new member onboarding processes
• Oversee membership renewal processes and procedures
• Serve as primary database administrator, ensuring data accuracy and integrity
• Track membership dues payments accurately and efficiently, ensuring database is correct and the national association and local districts receive proper payment
• Work with membership committee on awareness, marketing, and retention campaigns and strategies
• Manage the society’s member benefit partnerships
• Handle email communications to both members and prospective members
• Develop monthly e-newsletter as well as bi-annual printed newsletter and other printed materials
• Manage young optometrists program by communicating and coordinating with volunteer representatives throughout the state
• Assist in maintaining and updating society website
• Manage NCOS social media accounts
• Develop and manage yearly member survey
• Work registration desk at yearly spring and fall conferences
• Other duties as assigned


• Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred (or equivalent educational experience)
• 2+ years’ of association membership and/or marketing and communications experience strongly preferred
• Skilled at writing informative and engaging content using proper formatting and grammar
• Basic knowledge of html coding or an ability to learn
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Office
• Excellent multi-tasking and workload management skills
• Ability to work independently to complete tasks and take ownership in your work
• Comfortable working in a small staff office environment with a team-like atmosphere
• Be able to interact with all types of people in a personable, positive way through all forms of correspondence
• Handle stressful situations with patience and perseverance
