Finance Manager

General Statement of Duties

Performs responsible professional managerial work in planning, organizing, and directing the preparation, maintenance, and review of financial records and data for the church.

Distinguishing Features of the Class

An employee in this class performs a variety of complex tasks in the maintenance of financial, budget, and payroll records, and in advising church leaders and administrators on investments, budgeting and fiscal management matters. Work involves instituting new and utilizing established procedures and principles of bookkeeping and basic fund accounting and the review and processing of accounting documents, including work with financial statements, periodic reports, fund records, and payrolls. Duties require the ability to work in an automated financial environment with the full scope of bookkeeping and financial management processes. Work is performed in an office setting and the employee is not substantially exposed to any adverse environmental conditions. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Associate Pastor for Administration. Duties and Responsibilities Essential Duties and Tasks.

Plans, organizes, and manages the financial systems for the church, the Weekday School and the Foundation.
Maintains general accounting system via automation for the church, Weekday School, and the WMPC Foundation, maintains financial records for various accounts, and inputs data to separate accounts for proper maintenance of the budget.
Works closely with staff on the budget development and preparation process including performing research on the budget and making recommendations for adjustment and transfer if funds,
With proper authorization, facilitates sales of stocks and securities; manages investment of operating and special funds for maximum earnings and cash flow.
Verifies outside vendor entry of salary and employee information, reviews payroll information; when necessary; enters information, runs payroll, verifies the accuracy of results. Prints checks and prepares related payroll reports, completes necessary reports including State tax, Federal tax, FICA, and others.
Analyzes financial data, prepares reports, and makes recommendations for improvements in the fiscal operations of the church.
Supervises accounting personnel in the collection of fees or payments and records business transactions in journals, ledgers, and special forms; prepares and balances deposits.
Posts revenues, expenditures, assets, and encumbrances to journals and ledgers; prepares related revenue and fund reports and transfers fund as directed.
Checks interest rates at banks for investments in cooperation with supervisor, opens and renews investments.
Provides invoices and prepares checks and related accounting documentation for funds; follows up on discrepancies.
Enrolls personnel in benefits plans; interprets benefits to personnel; maintains information with plans; assists with claims problems files accident/incident reports with the State.
Balances totals of revenues, makes daily deposit slips, assists in collection as needed, discusses and explains forms and benefits to the church’s employees and members.
Maintains files of checks, vouchers, contribution envelopes, and payroll records and documents.
Serves as staff to the Finance Council, the Budget Committee and the church’s Foundation.
Answers inquiries regarding budgetary or financial information.
Additional Job Duties

Performs miscellaneous research tasks on fiscal or budget records.
Prepares financial statements and assists with annual audit.
Serves as backup for computer operations and substitutes for Office Manager, as needed.
Performs other duties as required.
Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities

Considerable knowledge of general bookkeeping and payroll principles and practices.
Considerable knowledge of accounting principles including fund accounting.
Working knowledge of church rules and regulations governing accounting and budgetary responsibilities.
Skill in the operation of an automated accounting system and other office machines required to perform the job.
Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare complex records and reports.
Ability to make arithmetical computations accurately and with reasonable speed.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with vendors, employees, church committees and members, and the general public.
Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
Ability and willingness to learn the benefits programs and administer them properly for the church.
Ability to plan, organize, supervise, and evaluate the work of other employees.
Desirable Education and experience

Graduation from a four year college with a degree in accounting and experience in accounting or bookkeeping work preferably including some experience in church fiscal operations, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Pay: $70,607.00 - $80,424.00 per year
