Chief Executive Officer

In June of 1968, a small group of Christians, brought together by Margaret Keller, met together to address a common concern: how to best serve neighbors in need. From different races and denominations, but united in Christ, they agreed to work together to help meet some of the needs of the Cary and Morrisville community. With backing from local churches, Dorcas Ministries was formed as a “Christian Community in Action”. Over time, the organization’s services have expanded to include financial and emergency food assistance, career coaching and healthcare screenings through a mobile clinic provided in partnership with UNC School of Nursing. Dorcas Ministries has always, and continues to, strive to find solutions to the increasing and different needs of the community, hoping to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors. With its more than 600 volunteers seeking to uphold the organization’s core values of compassion, dignity, justice and stewardship, Dorcas is proud to be able to serve the community and empower people to become stable and self-sufficient.

Position and Requirements
CEO Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO for Dorcas Ministries will carry out the directives of the Board and have overall strategic and operational responsibility for the organization’s staff, programs, expansion and execution of its mission.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Lead in the formulation of the strategic and tactical plans for the organization
• Provide leadership in developing program, organizational and financial plans with the Board of Directors and staff, and carry out plans and policies authorized by the board
• Prepare annual budgets in collaboration with Dorcas Shop Managers, Client Services and Resource Development Directors and Chief Financial Officer and present to the Board’s finance committee for approval
• Prepare, submit to legal counsel for review, and approve contracts as required. Submit to Board for approval as required by the bylaws
• Ensure Dorcas Ministries and its programs and services are consistently presented in strong, positive image to the local community by participating in public relations events and activities. Serve as spokesperson for the activities of Dorcas Ministries, including its programs and goals
• Maintain and foster partnerships with government, churches, ministerial associations and other organizations
• Direct public relations programs, including oversight of the Dorcas newsletter and social media
• Oversee all fundraising efforts to support the organization’s goals. Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities
• Develop a strong relationship with the Board of Directors; attend all board meetings and provide the Board with information necessary to make competent decisions
• Ensure that all staff are properly trained, evaluated and motivated to fulfill their job responsibilities so that they may carry out the organization’s goals • Lead and build a culture supportive of the mission and communities served

Qualities and Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, human services or related area required with master's degree preferred
• Ten years of management experience in the not-for-profit sector, including strategic planning, board and volunteer development, and philanthropic development
• Strong administrative and operational abilities, including financial management experience and a proven history of strong financial acumen with the ability to maintain disciplined financial controls and monitor constant improvement in the fiscal environment
• Experience in fundraising, including solicitations from individuals, corporation and foundations and grant writing
• Demonstrated experience as a leader of people; knowledge of principles and practices of supervision, including staff management
• Model relationship building skills in all interactions with the ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations
• Ability to work effectively to support the Board of Directors as well as a highly experienced staff and volunteer workforce
• Proven networking and relationship building skills in the nonprofit community
• Capable of providing conflict resolution
• Must appreciate the mission of Dorcas with a personal commitment to helping others
