The North Carolina Zoological Society, Inc. Position Description Finance Director Submission Deadline: October 17, 2017 The North Carolina Zoological Society, Inc. is the private, 501(c)3, non-profit organization that partners with the North Carolina Zoo to support its conservation, education, research and recreation missions. The Society funds Zoo programs that conserve wildlife, protect wild environments, conduct research and provide recreational experiences that strengthen the bonds between people and wildlife. The Society is currently seeking to fill the position of Finance Director to begin January 2, 2018. The Finance Director has primary day to day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing and controlling all financial related activities of the NC Zoo Society. This will include direct responsibility for the accounting, finance, and human resources functions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Direct and oversee all aspects of the finance and accounting functions of the Society • Provide leadership and coordination in the Accounting Department, business planning, forecasting, accounting and budgeting efforts of the NC Zoo Society • Maintain regular interaction with the Society Board’s Finance Committee • Develop, implement and maintain a structure of internal controls based on GAAP for non-profits, Sarbanes-Oxley and appropriate federal and state law to ensure the integrity and stewardship of the organization and its non-profit status • Develop and maintain proper accounting structure that accurately classifies the organization’s assets including unrestricted, temporary and permanently restricted funds, planned gifts and endowments • In conjunction with the Executive Director, develop, implement and present to Society Board for approval an annual operating budget, ensuring adequate cash flow to meet the Society needs and continuous evaluation of short and long term strategic financial goals • Ensure data entry, accounts payable and receivables are completed in an accurate and timely manner • Responsible for human resources function and employee benefits administration • Responsible for cash management and reconciliation of investment and operating accounts • Ensure proper coordination with North Carolina Zoo staff to manage Board-designated and donor-restricted program service projects • Computer maintenance liaison with computer company (outsourced) • Coordinates payroll processing with payroll company (outsourced) • Work on assigned projects as needed and required special events Education/Experience: • BS in Accounting preferred or 5+ years’ financial and management experience with the day-to-day operations of a non-profit organization • Knowledgeable in GAAP, payroll procedures, labor laws, employee benefits, Human Resources, plus team facilitation skills • Experience with Raiser’s Edge (fundraising software) and Financial Edge (G.L. & A.P. accounts) preferred
