Haiti Outreach Ministries (HOM) is a faith-based, Christian nonprofit established in 1989, operating in the United States to support MICECC, (Mission Communautaire de l'Eglise Chretienne des Cities) their Haitian partner.

MICECC serves four communities around Port-au-Prince – Cite Soleil, Terre Noire (Blanchard), Menelas (Repatriote) and Barye Fe.  In addition to ministering 3,200 congregants weekly; MICECC provides 1,540 Haitian children with primary and secondary school education, and delivers medical care to more than 30,000 patients annually. Pastor Leon Dorleans, Founder of HOM describes the relationship between the two organizations, “HOM and MICECC are two sides of the coin. HOM is the support organization to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of MICECC’s vision for the future.”   The programs supported by Haiti Outreach Ministries are guided by MICECC and the Haitian people.

Haiti is the poorest country in the western Hemisphere. A massive earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 struck Haiti in January of 2010 with the epicenter approximately 15 miles west of the capital, Port-au-Prince, leaving the country in ruins. An estimated 300,000 Haitians were killed, 1.5 million people were homeless and the country’s strained and inadequate infrastructure was severely compromised.

Haiti Outreach Ministries remains a reliable and trusted conduit for donors to invest in rebuilding the country. HOM solicits contributions and ensures transparency, reporting and accountability for the funds generated from US congregations, donors, foundations, sponsors and friends who support the work of MICECC.  HOM organizes mission trips providing opportunities for volunteer teams to learn about Haiti and engage in major construction efforts, educational programs and medical care.

The highly engaged and active Board of Directors is hiring their first Executive Director to provide leadership and vision; financial and operational oversight; coordination and expansion of fundraising activities; program evaluation guided by measurable outcomes; enhanced communication and volunteer management.

ATTRIBUTES AND SKILLS OF THE NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The successful candidate will be a visionary, passionate leader with proven professional leadership experience, preferably within the nonprofit sector; demonstrated fundraising success securing major gifts from foundations, congregations, individuals, and corporations; financial, operational and technical acumen; a keen strategic thinker able to meet goals, timelines and objectives; substantial expertise working with an engaged board of directors; exceptional oral and written communication skills; a charismatic relationship builder; an enthusiastic self-starter who can work independently; ability to travel extensively throughout the US and Haiti; and proficiency working with volunteer teams.
In addition, he/she should possess the following:

• Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university required, Masters level preferred
• Approximately 10 years or more of experience working in a nonprofit or related field
• Demonstrated capacity to work within a culturally rich and racially diverse environment and exhibit respect, compassion, patience, humility, and sensitivity in working with the Haitian people
• A strong background working with faith-based, Christian organizations and non-profits focusing on serving those in need
• Must be willing and able to work flexibly in a team environment, manage multiple simultaneous projects and responsibilities, possess the ability to build relationships with high level professionals and the ability to manage and support change
• Resides in the Southeastern United States.

THE LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY
• Provide executive leadership, under the direction of an active and engaged board
• Help create a vision for the future of the organization
• Spearhead on-going and future fundraising efforts and major campaigns
• Administer a faith-based, Christian organization and comfortable working with faith-based and secular organizations
• Serve as the primary spokesperson and advocate for HOM’s mission  
• Ensure the needs and interests of MICECC, donors, congregations, sponsors, and relevant stakeholders are met
• Manage programs and services to assure efficient and effective operations within the approved budget and determine measurable results.

GOVERNANCE AND POLICY
• Support the Board in designing organizational strategies supporting the mission, vision, and goals for the agency
• Advise and assist the board in fulfilling the responsibilities of their respective offices
• Report to the officers and Board such matters as are necessary to keep them properly informed of the organization’s activities
• Develop and administer a balanced, annual budget
• Develop and oversee the implementation of various policies, to be approved by the board, designed to further the organization’s mission
• Ensure that the annual audit is performed by an independent accounting firm.

FINANCIAL AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
• Responsible for the consistent flow of revenue to the organization, to support programs and activities through a diverse and multi-faceted income stream
• Cultivate positive and sustained relationships with MICECC, congregations, individual donors, sponsors, foundations, corporations, international partners, and major funders
• Assist the Board in carrying out its revenue development responsibilities
• Demonstrate a strong business and financial acumen, bringing strategic ideas for organizational growth
• Assume a visionary leadership role in forming new partnerships.

PROGRAM AND FINANCIAL OVERSIGHT
• Assure that all programs are offered at the highest quality and meet best practices as expected by key funding partners
• Ensure strong internal control, fiscal responsibility, accountability, transparency, and efficient, accurate, and consistent financial operations and practices
• Provide the highest level of integrity with respect to fiduciary responsibilities and organizational policy
• Work with the finance committee to develop an annual budget for the Board’s review and approval
• Educate the board about the importance of a careful review of the annual financial audit and 990
• Assure compliance with the articles of incorporation, by-laws and conflict of interest policies; assuring HOM's continued status as a 501-C-3 non-profit organization.

BOARD RELATIONS
• Work in partnership with the Board of Directors to fulfill governance matters. The ED informs the Board as needed, communicates clearly and regularly with the Board Chair and Board members, and maintains a close partnership with the Board Chair, Executive Committee, and Board members
• Provide appropriate staff support to the Board, its committees, and officers
• Advise and consult with Board Chair, Vice Chair and committee chairs on agendas and meetings minutes
• Work with Board Executive Committee to ensure proper implementation of Board policies
• Work with appropriate Board Committees as needed to ensure compliance with grants and overall governance
• Develop and update the Board’s approval of a succession plan and emergency backup plan.
