Silence is Not Golden - Training Your Board To Be "Woke" About Racial Inequity

During this time of fear, uncertainty, and change, one thing remains clear; the board as stewards of the public good, must reprove intolerance and inequity and lift their collective voices to make change. In this session, boards will learn how to work with the CEO and staff to ground organizational values and practices so that they are inclusive. They will redefine their roles by accepting accountability for setting the tone with deliberate and strategic action to drive progress towards race equity cultures at their organizations. Participants will understand that they must:

  • Acknowledge and discuss how lack of awareness of personal biases inadvertently perpetuate structural racism
  • Map out how to use term limits to change the board’s composition and tap into the cadre of qualified professionals of color, including women
  • Choose structures and practices to attract, hire, and retain successful CEOs and other C-suite leaders of color
  • Distinguish how to empower, partner with, and support the CEO to engage staff and external stakeholders about how to align equity across the organization and the marginalized communities they serve
  • Collaborate with the development chair and team to reframe fundraising strategies to build relationships with and steward donors of color

Both board members and staff are encouraged to attend! Can't attend? Register to receive the recording and materials.
