NC Medicaid’s Move to Managed Care: What Health Care Advocates Need to Know

Starting on July 1, 2021, more than 1 million North Carolinians on NC Medicaid and NC Health Choice will begin having their coverage managed by one of five private health insurance plans. With enrollment in Medicaid managed care starting soon, it is important for nonprofit service providers to understand the basics of how this transition in Medicaid will work.

The National Health Law Program, Charlotte Center for Legal Advocacy, North Carolina Justice Center, Disability Rights NC, and Pisgah Legal Services will host a webinar to help service providers and advocates better understand Medicaid transformation, including:

• How the new system will work and important rollout dates
• Duties of the state agency, managed care plans, and enrollment broker to beneficiaries
• Anticipated challenges/issues to watch
• Rights of Medicaid beneficiaries and where they can go for help
• Who is exempt from managed care or can opt out
• The complex structure for persons with behavioral health needs
