Dress for Success Triangle NC, an affiliate of the worldwide organization, was founded by Pat Nathan in 2008.  Our mission is to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of support, professional attire, and development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. 

Dress for Success Triangle operates locations at 1058 W. Club Boulevard in Durham and at 1812 Tillery Place in Raleigh. We offer on-site career coaching, image coaching, professional fittings, and a range of longer term programming designed to help women grow their networks and their careers.

With a small professional staff (7 FTE, 3 PT) and more than 370 volunteers, Dress for Success Triangle is serving over 2000 women annually to advance economically by building careers.

Context

Following a diligent search process, on July 31st, the board welcomed Laura Martin as Dress for Success Triangle’s newest Executive Director.

With a proven, local record for building sustainable programs and funding plans, Laura brings a commitment to assuring the long-term growth of Dress for Success Triangle.  She is supported by a strong and well-connected group of board leaders. Dress for Success is an organization in a stage of high growth, expansive energy, and with an engaged and experienced board.

Dress for Success Triangle seeks a Development Director with a passion for our mission, experience and ability to shape and drive a funding plan, and flexibility to grow with our organization. The next Development Director will successfully implement and manage a growing annual fundraising plan. 

Dress for Success Triangle currently raises one million dollars annually to support job acquisition, career development, networking, and professional attire services to over 2000 Triangle women.  Revenue sources include individuals, corporations, foundations, grants, and earned income from quarterly boutique clothing sales.  Additional revenue drivers include 2 annual events, an annual appeal, and a young professionals’ giving network.  The Development Director is directly involved in all fundraising activities except boutique sales.

 

Job Description

The Development Director reports directly to the Executive Director.
They work closely with board members, staff, and volunteers to develop and coordinate effective strategies to sustain current fundraising and to create plans to raise new money for Dress for Success Triangle operations. One FTE Marketing and Corporate Engagement Manager partners with the Development Director in creating and executing annual marketing plans, cultivating and stewarding corporate giving, and providing data-driven insights on emerging prospects through HubSpot, inbound marketing and sales software.

The key functions of this position include:
• Fund Development
• Donor Relations Management
• Grant Execution and Management

The position provides support to:
• Special Events
• Public Relations

In partnership with Executive Director and board, the Development Director will be responsible for:
• Developing and meeting funding requirements for the organization
• Identifying, cultivating, and making asks of new donors
• Stewarding existing donors
• Crafting and presenting compelling donation stories
• Refining and growing the organization’s Development capacity and infrastructure

The Development Director will have direct responsibility for:
• Implementing donor recognition and stewardship activities
• Serving as staff leader, convener, and manager of Development Committee
• Assisting in coordination of key annual fundraising events, Celebrate Success (Spring gala) and Women Making Change (Fall Luncheon)
• Assisting in coordination of donor affinity groups, Success Circles ($1000+ annually) and
Women for Success (young professional giving network)
• Grant research, writing, and reporting functions
• Publically representing and promoting Dress for Success Triangle to potential funders
• Collaborating closely with staff and volunteers to champion an internal culture of philanthropy

 

Experience Requirements

Must Have:
• Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent
• 2-5 years of experience in nonprofit development and communications
• Demonstrated affinity for mission
• Ability to set priorities, multi-task, and meet deadlines
• Budgeting experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proficiency in Customer Relationship Management (CRM) technology; Salesforce preferred
• Ability to adapt to evolving and collaborative work culture

Additional requirements:

• Ability to lead, persuade, and influence others
• Skilled in strategic thinking and planning
