Mission:

Our mission is to equip homeless young adults to take charge of their lives by obtaining and sustaining stable housing, education, career and life skills so that they become financially independent, thrive and succeed as productive, purpose driven, and self-reliant citizens.

Our service population of transitional aged young people are getting kicked out of wherever they are living at eighteen years old. They are the ones who are moving from one sofa or floor to another and after a few nights they are told their time is up and must find another place to live. This lifestyle becomes a daily mode of survival. If this cycle is not broken, more and more of our young people will drop out of school, be unable to locate employment, and potentially get caught up in the legal system.

Our vision is to create a community focused on providing residential supportive housing that will enable homeless young adults to live in an environment of stability and safety. The residential services will provide a daily structure of school attendance(High School, Vocational Training, Community College and or a Four-Year University)along with working a minumum of twenty hours a week with a requirement to participant in the Finanicial 3-3-3 Plan. Our program moves participants through three phases from “homeless to homeownership” if so desired.

All participants will receive case management connecting them to a supportive network of community partners who will assist in ensuring each person’s specific needs are addressed.

Mission:

Weaver Community Housing Association, a charitable, 501(c)3 non-profit, has become a thriving, affordable housing organization with two unique, cooperatively-run communities in Chapel Hill-Carrboro.

Several years ago, a group of affordable housing advocates and social justice activists from the Chapel Hill, NC area united with a mission to create living structures to accomplish two main goals:

1. Provide permanently affordable and sustainable housing for lower income families and individuals

2. Empower residents to make decisions and cooperatively control and maintain their homes and communities

This mission originated from alarm at the rapidly depleting availability of local affordable housing and absentee landlords who too often where subjecting residents to poor and unsafe living conditions.

We believe that the egalitarian, democratic values of the cooperative model address those two main goals and offer the best opportunity for healthy, sustainable communities.
