Fostering Wellness Collaborative Overview:

In 2014, a group of 16 nonprofit and government agencies began working together to create an integrated service delivery model to improve outcomes for young people aging out of foster care in the Triangle region.  In March 2016, six of those agencies were awarded with the GSK Impact Grant to support young people in Durham, Orange, and Wake counties with history in foster care. With the support of the GSK Impact Grant, Inter-Faith Food Shuttle, The Hope Center at Pullen, LIFE Skills Foundation, Community Partnerships Inc., SaySo, Dress for Success and United Way of the Greater Triangle have partnered to provide opportunities for young people to improve their own leadership and employment skills in the food production system, develop a stronger support network, live healthier lives and become advocates for a healthier community.

Position Overview:

The Career Development Specialist is a critical part of the Fostering Wellness Collaborative Team.  The Career Development Specialist works one-on-one and in small groups with young people aging out of foster care and other collaborative partners to ensure that young people develop employment skills. Additionally, the Career Development Specialist works closely with other partners in Durham county and employers to create career and internship opportunities for the young people.

Position Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 
• Engaging local employers in providing employment and internship opportunities for young people
• Collaborating with local agencies to implement strategies that expose young people to various career opportunities that allows them to develop employment skills
• Ensuring that the process for matching young people with employment opportunities is effective and in line with meeting the needs of both parties- the young person and employer
• Designing and implementing workshops that are based on the needs and interests of young people aging out of foster care and provide relevant career exposure
• Providing one-on-one and small group career coaching on resume building, interview skills and other critical employment skills
• Managing and tracking data to report grant outcomes
• Working closely with the Fostering Wellness Collaborative to ensure that young people are achieving the intended outcomes of the Fostering Wellness grant and making a successful transition to adulthood
• Perform other duties as may be required to meet Fostering Wellness goals and objectives

Position Qualifications:

Education:  Bachelor’s Degree.

Experience:  1. A minimum of three (3) years of experience supporting at-risk populations (ideally young adults) with career development opportunities. 2. Experience working as part of a collaborative service delivery team strongly preferred. 3. Experience working in a small business or business setting preferred.

Other Requirements:  Ideal candidate will have experience working with employers to secure employment opportunities and will be confident working with at-risk youth. Strong knowledge of area employers and opportunities. Excellent communication skills across a variety of different stakeholders.  Commitment to a client-focused and collaborative service delivery model.  Ability to set own schedule, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.  Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as needed.  Access to reliable personal vehicle to provide community based services.
