Description:

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, the Camp and Retreat Director will plan, organize, direct and control all areas relating to the programs of Camp Dogwood and Off-Season Retreats. Camp Dogwood is a 56 acre lake front property owned by the North Carolina Lions, Inc. serving over 700 visually impaired (mostly adult) campers during summer and hosting multiple off season groups, retreats and events for the past 50 years. We are located in Sherrills Ford, NC on Lake Norman just north of Charlotte.

DUTIES • Supervise day to day operations of the property to include staff, services, maintenance, and program development • Work with all departments to ensure cohesive and high functioning staff team with top-notch customer service • Develop and administer summer camp program for visually impaired adults and expand on youth program opportunities • Recruit and retain campers for summer camp • Develop and maintain key relationships with visually impaired service entities across the state to promote camp and camper attendance • Recruit, hire, train and supervise summer staff within prescribed guidelines • Provide input to board of directors and NCLI state chairs concerning program needs • Coordinate booking of Off Season Retreats and Usage of Property with intent to grow • Promote and market Dogwood for the specific purpose of attracting and retaining groups including but not limited to: reunions, special events, schools, church groups, company retreats, non-profits, etc. • Build awareness of property to include utilizing space for events, recruitment of local volunteers, and promotion of Dogwood as a key player in the surrounding community • Follow budgetary guidelines when purchasing goods and services to maintain property and programs and assist in preparation of the budget • Maintain records and inventories and prepare reports as required • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental regulations • Availability to work night/weekend ‘on-call’ when groups are in session is required • All other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelors Degree in Camping, Programming, Hospitality Industry or related field preferred. At least three years experience in working with retreat centers, camp, large groups, marketing, hospitality administration or other similar skill set required.

Salary Range: 

Compensation to include health insurance, vacation, sick and holiday pay, retirement upon eligibility. Year round housing provided on site if requested as well as meals during while in session. Range is $35,000-$45,000 based on experience.
