POSITION SUMMARY

The Assistant Executive Director serves as the second in leadership for The Centers for Exceptional Children (CFEC) and works closely with and under the Executive Director, who is the chief professional officer of the non-profit Corporation and is responsible for CFEC’s overall financial, programmatic and administrative performance.  This includes the resource development necessary to meet the budget requirements, including human resources. The ED and Assistant ED work with the Board of Directors to provide leadership for the development and implementation of the strategic vision and plan of CFEC.  Within the framework of the goals, objectives and policies established by the Board of Directors, the Assistant ED assists the ED’s responsibility for the administration of all components of the Corporations.  The ED and Asst. ED work collaboratively with the principals of the member schools and leadership of the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, providing strategic guidance to facilitate their active participation in achieving CFEC’s goals and objectives and supporting their planning, coordination and management of the daily operations of the schools and the Family Support Network.  This position joins the ED in effectively communicating CFEC’s plans and policies to broad audiences and with developing and nurturing productive relationships and resources deemed essential for attainment of CFEC’s goals and objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Works with Executive Director to develop and implement organizational goals, objectives, policies and operating procedures
• Represent the ED and Board when needed
• Manage the staff of departments and programs that report to Assistant ED
• Assists ED in supporting activities associated with the Board of Directors, Board and Committee meetings, meeting schedules, development of agenda, meeting materials, etc.
• Work with Finance Manager to handle budget and HR issues and responsibilities
• Assist with development and marketing needs, as necessary
• Oversee those who work to secure the various volunteers for CFEC, both schools and Family Support Network
• Be familiar with overall responsibilities of ED and other key leadership positions
• Manage facilities
• Other duties as assigned by executive director, and reports to ED

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

• The successful candidate will have a proven track record in leadership, management and collaboration.
• Excellent communication skills, written and oral, to various audiences.
• Familiarity with budgeting, human resources and non-profit management protocols.
• Experience with development and grant writing is a plus.
• Understanding of public education, especially birth – kindergarten, as well as special education, is a plus but not a necessity.

• Minimum education required is a four-year bachelor’s degree.
• Minimum of 3-years relevant work experience.

Position is a full-time, exempt, 12-month position.
Compensation is commensurate with experience.
