Annually, Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest NC touches the lives of 300,000 people in northwest North Carolina. Rated a four-star charity by Charity Navigator for six consecutive years, our mission is to provide food assistance through a network of partners, while educating and engaging our communities in the elimination of hunger and its causes.

We have a new position available for a Marketing and Development Manager to develop and implement key communication strategies and tactics for Second Harvest Food Bank to promote organizational messaging, increase brand awareness and community engagement and to drive fundraising revenue. This position will develop and execute strategic, integrated marketing and communications campaigns; craft and edit messaging; and write and direct design and productions of quarterly newsletter, annual report and other collateral materials.  Additionally, assisting in writing and distributing media advisories, new releases, talking points, etc. will be part of the duties of this position.

The successful candidate must have a four year college degree (BA) preferably in communications or a related discipline or equivalent experience. A minimum of three years of solid marketing, creative and media relations experience, preferably in a non-profit environment is also necessary. Mastery in Adobe Creative Suite and Adobe Pro, proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite of products and experience with WordPress or other web content management platforms is also required.  Experience with in-house video production and editing is a plus.  A full job description is below.

Job Title:  Marketing & Development Manager

Primary Function: Develop and implement key communication strategies and tactics for Second Harvest Food Bank to promote organizational messaging, increase brand awareness and community engagement and drive fundraising revenue.
Key Responsibilities:

Publications, Assets and Collaterals
• Work with the Senior Communications and PR Manager and the Communications and Digital Content Manager, develop and execute strategic, integrated, marketing and communications campaigns.

• Manage development of organizational publications, brand and campaign assets, and collaterals for programs, general outreach, events and other development programs, operational facilities and fleet, etc.).

o Writer and editor for Second Harvest Food Bank’s quarterly Full Plate newsletter and Annual Report, coordinating editing, design and production.

o Provide insight and expertise in the development of concepts and strategies by analyzing objectives and recommending appropriate solutions; crafts and edits messaging and directs design and production, working with outside designers, printers and other vendors; updates and maintains collaterals in house, as appropriate.

o Create process for managing, prioritizing and delivering projects (print, video, digital, social banners and graphics, signage, banners, presentations, outreach materials, branded templates, etc.) on time and within budget.

o Support messaging, logo, collateral requests for 3rd party events and campaigns.

• Partner with Agency Relations team members and Individual Giving Manager to develop and lift “client stories” for direct mail appeals and develop stories and assets for online campaigns; reviews content and creative developed by direct mail vendors for adherence to brand standards.

• In advance of website redesign, develop and implement a process for building and maintaining a Community Engagement Calendar for public events and campaigns to support effective and integrated marketing, promotions and fundraising.

• Participate in Feeding America Communications and Corporate Sponsorships calls, reporting out information, insights and upcoming opportunities to Marketing and Development Team for vetting and integration into marketing and communications planning, as deemed appropriate.

Media Relations
• Assist in writing and distributing media advisories, news releases, pitches, PSAs, talking points and events-related feature stories; coordinate event postings to online outlet calendars for key events; conduct follow up with media to secure placements.

• Support media relations efforts of corporate and other outside groups conducting events, food and/or fund raising efforts to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank and grant makers, ensuring successful implementation of media/fund development agreements, including press and signage obligations and coordination with Digital Communications Manager, as appropriate.

• Maintain media contact list; researches and implements tools to maintain records and report media coverage.

• Serve as an additional resource to media when opportunities arise and are deemed appropriate.

Website
• Create web content; maintain and update key sections of redesigned website, including annual updates, Events Calendar, News Pages, and Campaign landing pages; monitor site for broken links.

• Work with outside vendors to monitor engagement and improve conversion rates.

• Support on-going content creation needs, working with outside web developers, designers, and other vendors, as needed.

Additional Responsibilities:
• Provide staffing and photography support for food drives, special events and public relations efforts; work to build Second Harvest Food Bank’s photo library.
• Additional responsibilities, as assigned.

Required Education/Knowledge/Skills:
• A minimum of a 4 year college degree (BA) preferably in communications or a related discipline.
• Solid marketing, creative and media relations experience, with a minimum of three years of experience in a related position, preferably in a not-for-profit environment.
• Exceptional writing abilities, with a track record of excellence in writing and editing marketing and other organizational communications materials.
• Demonstrated interest in social issues.
• Ability to plan, implement and evaluate marketing and communications efforts, with a track record of results using strong writing and creativity and managing creative development and production.
• Excellent interpersonal/communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively with leadership, peers, and colleagues on the Marketing and Development team and across the organization.
• Extremely organized and detail oriented and able to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, with strong flexibility and adaptability.
• Ability to act in an entrepreneurial fashion, taking initiative and being responsive to new opportunities and create value.
• Mastery in Adobe Creative Suite and Adobe Pro. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Experience with WordPress/Web Content Management Platforms.
• Experience with in-house video production and editing a plus.

Working Conditions:
• Work is mostly indoors with occasional outdoor work associated with food and fundraisers and other events
• Some evening and weekend work may be required
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to lift up to 30 pounds related to carrying articles such as file boxes, events-related materials, etc.
• Visual acuity to support requirements of daily computer work, taking photos, evaluating design projects and other job-related tasks
• Able to distinguish colors for layouts, designs, etc.
