HSCSC is hiring for a Director of Communications and Events position. HSCSC is an independent nonprofit focused on the revitalization of the Hillsborough Street corridor. With offices located in the heart of the Hillsborough Street business district, HSCSC is engaged with many of the individuals and organizations helping to shape the future of Raleigh’s gateway to downtown, NC State and Meredith College.

The Director of Communications and Events is a central position on our small team.  The ideal candidate is someone who is organized, proactive and self motivated, can work well both in a group and on their own and is passionate about the community.  She/he will have excellent judgment, the ability to work with high profile stakeholders and operate with integrity in a public environment.

Job Summary: The Director of Communications and Events plays an integral role in promoting our organization and its stakeholders within Raleigh. The Director is responsible for all communications activities for the organization and events produced or supported by the organization.

Essential Job Functions:
Communications
• Develop and implement an integrated, organization-wide strategic communications plan to broaden awareness of our organization and our stakeholders. 
• Oversee the continued development and use of our website, app, social media platform, e-newsletter and other communications tools.
• Oversee, or execute as needed, all copy intended for public consumption to ensure its alignment with our mission.
• Oversee and execute the development of all print and branded materials.
• Curate content and increase audience engagement on our social media channels.
• Exercise judgment to prioritize media opportunities, and prepare talking points, speeches, presentations and other supporting material as needed.
• Support the Executive Director in his role as point person on media interactions.  Actively cultivate and manage press relationships to ensure coverage of issues of strategic importance to the organization and its stakeholders. 
• Manage relationships with communications related vendors.
• Recruit and manage a communications support team including staff, board members, interns and volunteers to support the development and execution of the communications strategy.
• Promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement that values learning and a commitment to high quality material.

Events
• Plan, promote and execute the organization’s special events and assist other organizations with their events happening within our territory.
• Plan, implement and follow-up for our special events including: Annual Meeting, Street Festival, and Community Events ex. 
• Develop and maintain event software and databases.
• Coordinate event logistics, publicity, including public relations, advertising and collateral material design, production and distribution.
• Successfully manage event budgets and cultivate and expand sponsorship development and fulfillment.
• Represent the organization on the City of Raleigh’s Special Events Taskforce.

Miscellaneous
• Staff Support for our Residential Committee, Arts Committee and Merchants Committee.
• Develop sponsorship and fee for service opportunities as needed.

Qualifications/Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree
• 4+ years experience in a communications role
• Experience managing and executing across several communications platforms
• Strong written communication skills
• Experience with Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Adode Creative Suite, Wordpress and/or HTML
• Willing to execute day­to­day tasks and work independently
• Good entrepreneurial work ethic and a desire to “get the job done”

Total Compensation Package
$45,000 - $55,000 annual salary
$5,000 annual benefits stipend
12 Holidays Off

Working Conditions
General office environment and local travel. Must be able to lift 30 pounds and walk a flight of stairs regularly. Evening and weekend work are required occasionally.
