POSITION SUMMARY
The Benefits Outreach Coordinator will support the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina’s participation in expanding access to the benefits outreach programs. This position will collaborate with the Food Bank’s partner agencies and other social service organizations to educate potentially eligible low-income individuals and families about safety-net benefits programs, conduct pre-screenings, and assist with application completion and follow-up.

RESPSONSIBILITIES
• Conduct Federal safety-net programs awareness through educating the community and potential clients through presentations, speaking to community groups, health fairs
• Educate recipients of safety-net programs’ application, prescreening, open-enrollment, and recertification processes to improve participation and retention in federal safety-net programs
• In coordination with outpost sites, develop and implement a system to efficiently serve sites’ clients
• Collect and maintain accurate and detailed data to conform to state and federal privacy standards for submission of monthly reports to manager
• Develop and maintain outpost partnerships at various social service agencies and emergency food pantries
• Ensure appropriate communication between FBCENC and outpost sites
• Actively perform field work, with regards to staff shadowing and individual support of benefits access for the at-risk community
• Perform other duties as requested by VP of Community Health and Engagement and Benefits Outreach Manager
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• A minimum of four years of responsible and related work experience in addition to the educational requirements listed above
• Excellent Spanish oral and written communication required
• Demonstrated possession of tact, poise, professionalism, and diplomacy
• Demonstrated expertise in text preparation, spreadsheets, and marketing/presentation software
• Must have excellent oral and written communication and analytical skills
• Ability to build and support work teams
• Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion
• The ability to work with diverse groups of people
• A commitment to social justice
• Excellent driving record as extensive travel throughout Food Bank’s 34 county service area is required
• Valid NC driver’s license
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
• Undergraduate degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Social Work or other Humanities-related topic, or a mix of six years of related not-for-profit outreach experience with an unrelated undergraduate degree
• Public speaking, outreach or community development experience is highly desired; in particular, experience with main-stream media management, social media usage and grass roots outreach would reflect the ideal skill set
• Supervisory experience greatly preferred
• Written and verbal fluency in Spanish desired
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the education and experience requirement

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

The employee is often required to sit and must occasionally stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must often lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to work in a warehouse (10%), drive throughout our 34-county service area (60%) and in an office (30%). (This is an approximate measure and will vary day to day based on operational priorities). The employee will be required to drive an automobile and may need operate a forklift if needed. The employee will be required to interact with Food Bank personnel in the warehouse(s). In doing so, the employee will occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
General office and warehouse environments.

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb, balance, and to stoop, crouch or crawl.
While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to work in an office setting. The employee will be required to interact with Food Bank personnel in the warehouse(s). In doing so, the employee will occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Warehouse can be extremely cold at times and extremely hot during the summer months.
