The Associate Director of Development is responsible for unit-level decision making, management, strategic planning, and problem analysis and resolution, both autonomously and in collaboration with the Director of Development and other members of the Development leadership team. The Associate Director reports to the Senior Director of Development and is responsible for unit administration including donor relationships, communications, and on-time submission of required documents; supervision of primarily senior-level personnel, including recruiting, hiring, coaching, supervising, and evaluating the performance of staff members; workload management, including short- and long-term planning; and cross-organizational and external representation, including contributions to organizational initiatives and strengthening relationships with colleagues on other teams.

Responsibilities
Unit administration
• Contributes to unit planning and budgeting in accordance with the Ipas Management Cycle
• Approves expenditures for travel and credit card expenditures of direct reports

Donor relationships
Serves as donor liaison and final reviewer for proposals and unrestricted reports, as well as occasional project design facilitator. Serves as strategic resource to program teams on institutional donor issues and provides oversight to other staff to ensure tracking and documentation related to donor communication and feedback.

• Communicates as needed withdonors
• Ensures on-time submission of donor requirements, including LOIs, concept papers, RFPs, proposals, budgets; and as applicablenarrative and financial reports, core reports, and Q&As
• Final reviewer for high-priority donor documents
• Writing and editing as needed to meet donor deadlines

 

Personnel
• Manages the process of annual goal setting and monthly coaching for direct reports
• Participates in hiring, and on-boarding for direct reports
• Supervises and evaluates the performance of direct reports
• Creates and/or facilitates skill-building and professional development opportunities for unit staff individually or in groups
• Plans and facilitates unit staff meetings in collaboration with other staff

 

Workload management
• Assesses and assigns and/or adjusts grant writing/Development Strategist portfolios/workload; anticipates and manages future workloads including unanticipated or quick turnaround donor and other tasks

 

Cross-organizational representation
• Maintains and strengthens relationships with colleagues throughout the organization, including problem-solving
• Contributes to organizational initiatives through participation in working groups, task forces, etc.

Performs other duties as assigned

Requirements
Minimum
• Bachelor’s degree with 9-10 years of relevant experience
• 7-8 years experience in grant-writing or related experience; including editing and writing donor documents and managing document preparation processes
• Management and supervision experience
• Ability to travel 10%
• Working knowledge of MS Office Suite

• Excellent written and spoken English skills

Preferred
• Master’s Degree in relevant field
• Experience working in a non-profit organization
• Experience preparing competitive bids
• International experience
• Spanish or French language skills
• Working knowledge of donor databases
