Farmers of Color Network Communications Coordinator

Position Summary: RAFI is seeking a part-time Farmers of Color Network (FOCN) Communications Coordinator who will work closely with the Farmers of Color Network team and Director of Communications to increase FOCN’s overall visibility and facilitate a strategic flow of relevant, actionable information to its stakeholders. The primary focus includes coordinating, designing, and publishing digital and print communications materials; social media posting and monitoring; and communications to membership. This position will be supervised by the Director of Communications.

Primary Position Responsibilities:

Outreach and Events

Work with FOCN team to plan, publicize, and execute events, gatherings, webinars, and trainings, including managing event registrations and creating web pages

FOCN Communications

Develop and maintain FOCN materials: welcome packets, brochures, flyers, web presence, etc.

Manage social media channels including the FOCN Instagram and FOCN Facebook group

Develop and create regular FOCN E-newsletter

Co-manage with Comms Coordinator website calendar of RAFI and partner organizations’ events, hosted on RAFI’s website

Coordinate and execute the publication of FOCN grantees on RAFI’s website

Contribute towards farmer storytelling through the writing of blogs, Living Roots articles, etc

General

Participate in the following RAFI team meetings: FOCN, Communications, and weekly staff. Attends staff meetings, retreats, and events as needed

Responsible for completing administrative duties and adherence to organizational policies and procedures

Required skills, knowledge, and abilities:

Interest and passion for being a part of a team of committed individuals contributing to a just and equitable food system

Organized, detail-focused, forward-thinking individual who brings solutions, creativity, empathy, and a sense of humor to a dynamic team environment

Experience with communications apps and programs including Google Workspace, WordPress, Mailchimp, Salesforce, and others; Eagerness to learn programs is valued in cases where there is no prior experience

Excellent writing, editing, research, and communications skills. Ability to write quickly, within deadlines, and able to condense information to convey it clearly and concisely

Experience effectively using various social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.

Success in working collaboratively with staff and community stakeholders

Ability to coordinate multiple activities and timelines

Desired skills, knowledge, and abilities:

Graphic design experience with programs such as Canva and Adobe Creative Suite and the ability to quickly turn graphics around

Photography and videography experience

Spanish language proficiency

Basic knowledge of agricultural practices and small-scale farming

Demonstrated ability to communicate with and mobilize hard-to-reach populations

Compensation and Status: Part-time, approximately 20 hours per week. The ideal candidate will be able to work approximately 4 hours 5 days a week. Hourly rate of $33.48. Part-time employees are able to participate in RAFI’s 401(k) program and paid holidays.

Location: Preference for Triangle region of North Carolina. Employees are expected to spend 1-2 days in our Pittsboro office weekly. Remote employees based in NC (outside of the Triangle) will be considered.
